Car halogen bulb, xenon headlamp, LED headlight, which one is better ?

There are three kinds of car headlights that people use today, according to the birth date of the headlights, they are: the first one is car halogen bulbs, the second one is the xenon lamp ( also being called Hid lamp ), the third is the LED headlights.

The car halogen bulb is used to be the standard lamp when the car is ready for sale, generally its output is 55W, it can be said to be the first generation of car headlamp products, xenon lamp is the second generation of car headlamp products, LED headlamps is the third generation of car headlamp products, which is, the latest generation of car headlamp products.

To judge which of the three kind of car headlamp is better, first of all, we must talk about the principle of light emission of each generation of headlights:
The principle of car halogen bulbs was that after power is applied, the electric energy heats the tungsten filament into an incandescent state to emit light, and the electric energy is converted into heat energy and then converted into light energy. Edison, who invented the bulb, did numerous experiments to find “tungsten wire” as the appropriate filament. This is the first generation of car headlight product. The advantages are low cost and simple fabrication. The disadvantages are high temperature, poor durability, and low brightness.

The xenon car headlamp’s lighting principle is: using a ballast to raise the original car voltage from 12V to 23000V and then ignite the arc to emit light, which is also the conversion of electrical energy into heat energy first, and then into light energy. The advantage is high brightness, brightness is 4-6 times that of car halogen bulb, the disadvantage is that the temperature is extremely high, up to 300-400 degrees, things like the lampholder baking, the lampshade became yellow happen from time to time, extremely power-consuming, poor stability, slow start-up with delays, now people don’t like to use it.

The LED headlamp’s lighting principle: after power-on, the LED chip emits light directly (excitation of chemical energy directly emits light), and electric energy is directly converted into photoelectric by the LED chip, skipping the step of converting to heat energy, and therefore, the LED Light sources are also being called cold light sources! The inspiration for the LED chip was inspired by fireflies. A firefly glows at night and does not need electricity or oil.

The advantages of LED headlights are: high brightness, brightness is 4-6 times that of the car halogen bulb; the temperature is very low, generally 50-70 degrees, because the temperature is low, the performance is very stable, almost no light failure, instant start, besides, there is no delay. Moreover, the lighting distribution is very even and not like a halogen bulb or xenon lamp. Driver sitting in the cab looking very comfortable and not easily became visual fatigue.

Through the above analysis of the lighting principles of the three headlamps, I think consumers should know which lamp is better. I am a professional car repairer. I often have a driver to get a lamp to me and ask me to help install it. 99% of them are equipped with LED headlights, and almost no one has a xenon lamp.
